Route details

Park in Selkirk town centre and head down the hill past the Haining, crossing the river Ettrick and turning left at the rugby and cricket clubs. Opposite the cricket club pick up the bike path on your left and follow this path almost all the way to Bowhill, it turns from tarmac to dirt track at the salmon ladder. Where you rejoin the main road, go right then left to follow a quieter road running parallel to Bowhill house.

The remainder of the run is on quiet country roads but cars do travel quickly along here at times, so take care and don’t put headphones in while you are running. The route crosses the Yarrow river and heads south towards the Ettrick river. Half way through the route you cross the Ettrick and turn left to head back to Selkirk over a rolling road with two long drags. It is at this point my Dad will try to pick it up and drop me, though to my memory he has never succeeded despite claiming to have the record for the loop.

Despite the climbs the pace does naturally pick up from here and there are some lovely views over the rolling green hills of the central borders, purple in late august, and the miles fly by.

Once back in Selkirk turn right to cover the final dig up to the town.
