local coffee fix

Black Pine cafe is a personal favourite. Great coffee also in 1841 or Perch and Rest, with Paper Cup a brilliant option if you want more of a meal with your coffee.

Route details

There is parking in and around Kelvingrove park and art gallery, which is a beautiful and grand building to start at. This route follows a Glasgow Uni classic with an additional loop of Kelvingrove park at the start. Cross the river into the park and head east then north around the perimeter of the park. Once at the northern end of the part drop down onto the Kelvin Walkway and follow the river for 3 miles. You will go past some beautiful old buildings and next to (though slightly lower down than) the popular Botanic gardens. This is a surprisingly picturesque route for a city run and is consequently popular with runners, walkers, and commuters.

After 3.4 miles keep an eye out for the path up to the canal at Lock 25 and follow the towpath north and east back towards the city centre. There are great views over the whole city at times. Around the 5 mile point drop down off the canal and head back towards Great Western road where you can drop back down onto the Kelvin Walkway to retrace your steps along the river to the art gallery.

A lovely route, though perhaps avoid Kelvingrove park on a hot, sunny day as you will barely be able to move for people out enjoying the weather.
