Peace and plantation
Southern Scotland is the quiet and peaceful stretch of the Southern Uplands. Often passed through en-route to the Highlands, it offers a quiet escape for those seeking natural beauty and solitude. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of dirt roads through forestry plantations may spark some debate amongst those striving to re-wild and re-develop native woodland, but they are an undeniable gem for off-road running.
I have included the Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, as well as the three Ayrshire and three Lothian council regions.
