Route details

Start at the old Tweed bridge where there are a few parking spaces. If you wanted to make it an 8 mile run instead of 12 then drive up the Tweed and park at Yair bridge. Drop down to the grass path and run up the side of the Tweed to Yair bridge. Cross over at the bridge and continue to follow the river, deviating slightly from it by the house gardens, before picking up the dirt track next to the farm that takes you all the way to Peel bridge.

For a fairly flat 9 mile option turn here and make the route an out-and-back along the river Tweed.

Once at Peel, head towards the forestry car park and take the right path, not left, to begin climbing up around the shoulder of Craig hill. Don’t take the U-turn option further up the hill and stick on the main track which gradually snakes around the shoulder of Three Brethren. If you wanted to, you could head up to the summit but this would add on around 1.5 miles and 600/700ft of elevation. The forestry track eventually starts to descend. Go down hill for around a mile and take the left turn, followed by an immediate right onto some single track through the trees. This will take you down to the Yair bridge car park. From here retrace the outward route to your car.

When coming down from the high point there are several ways you could come down. Stay on the forestry all the way to the road, or from the high point follow the southern upland way back to Yair, all are decent running.
