Distance and Elevation
Distance: 6 miles / 9.6 km
Elevation: 1667ft / 508m
recommended Footwear
If dry then road shoes will suffice, and much of the route is on manufactured paths so doesn’t tend to get particularly sloppy. Trail shoes are also fine.
Recommended running
Not massively high but they offer a good bit of hill running, with some steep sections towards the summit.
local coffee fix
Twelve Triangles has good coffee and a great bakery, although it sells out quickly at the weekends. Apples for Jam isn’t quite so strong for coffee but is a better option if you want breakfast or lunch.

Route details
There is charged parking in the town centre by the Abbey where the above route starts and finishes, free on Sunday I believe, but if you wanted guaranteed free parking and a 9-10 mile route you could park at the Tweedbank park and ride and run along the Tweed to Melrose.
Head away from Melrose along the quiet road towards Newstead village. Once arriving there, cross over the main road following signs for the Rhymer’s stone. Once over the main road essentially just head uphill. You will be able to see your route up unless the weather is horrendous so just head for the summit. The gradient really ramps up as you get nearer the summit and I am sure many a strong athlete has been humbled to a walk on the final slopes. From the summit you get a fantastic panorama of the Borders and you can see your other two tops. There are numerous paths so follow whichever one you want, let your adventurous side take over.
The route above takes in the highest summit next, again a steep one with some loose scree if you follow the route down the opposite side, less so if you just return to the bealach. You then head for the final top, more a shoulder that won’t bother you much even on tired legs. Once all three Eildons have been ticked off, head for the bealach between the two high points and follow the routes back down to the golf course and into Melrose.
