local coffee fix
To my knowledge the closest are in the West End of Glasgow. Black Pine Cafe and 1841 are probably closest and both have great coffee and cakes.

Route details
There are plenty of places to park along the length of this canal, and the canal stretches significantly longer in both directions than shown on the map, the image just shows the section within East Dunbartonshire.
It is an out-and-back so the only route guidance needed is turn around when you are ready, and remember every mile you run out you need to be able to run back.
It is a great place for easy runs and fast runs, and I did a significant amount of both here during my time at university. It is pretty quiet but you do get walkers, dogs, and bikes on it so be careful not to cause any collisions.
If just easy running there are several points where you can use the tarmac towpath on one side and a dirt trail on the opposite side, so feel free to explore a bit and make it up as you go. The trails do get a bit too muddy to bother with a session off-road though, so stick to the towpath if you want to hammer.
