Route details
Starting from the main Hermitage car park just off the A9, where there is a charge, the first half of the route is fairly straightforward and offers a chance to pick your own route as there are several trails to follow heading the same way.
Head up river from the car park and you quickly reach the main attraction of this route. The impressive Falls of Braan, a spectacular spot after rainfall and familiar with the instagram community. Hopefully, you get a rare quiet moment here but henceforth the route will quieten significantly.
Follow the river for around another mile passing through lovely woodland until you reach the rumbling bridge. This is a second point where the river carves through rock in an impressive manner and yet, the number of visitors must be a minute proportion of that of the falls of Braan. Enjoy the smug satisfaction that exploring beyond the tourist paths brings, cross the rumbling bridge, and turn left into the woods to start heading east again.
After a short wooded section, you pick up a dirt track that rises through some farmland on the hillside. Pleasant views open out here and you can enjoy long reaching wooded views up strath Tay, a fantastic site when dusted with snow as I experienced when here.
After 3.3 miles you begin to drop down and pick up the road through Inver back to the car park.
