Route details

There is plenty of parking in the city centre and also at the other end of the run at Bught park, so start at either end. Run down the river Ness past charming buildings and wind through the islands, using the bridges here to cross over the Ness. This takes you to Bught park which would be great for a grass session if you were looking for somewhere, and you could add a few grass loops here to extend the run.

Head to the south end of Bught park and cut past the botanic gardens, picking up the canal towpath. This would also be brilliant for tempos and road sessions, as canals almost always are, and it is extremely unlikely you will run out of canal for your run, even doing a point to point run. Head north for this route until you reach the Inner Moray Firth, turn right along a path through Merkinch nature reserve. This takes you to the mouth of the Ness which makes navigating back to your car easy.
