recommended Footwear
Road shoes or trail will both be fine. May prefer trail if there has been lots of rain.
Recommended running
Easy running over an undulating and twisty path along the Leader water, with good views from the top of Black hill.
local coffee fix
Twelve Triangles has good coffee and a great bakery, although it sells out quickly at the weekends. Apples for Jam isn’t quite so strong for coffee but is a better option if you want breakfast or lunch.

Route details
Start at the Leaderfoot viaduct, an impressive structure over the river Tweed. Run over the river, take the footpath through the woods to your right and pick up the signposted path for the Leader water path. Follow this almost all the way to Earlston, crossing over the leader water at a small bridge and make your way up to the road. From here follow the obvious path out and back up to the summit of black hill, an easy hill to summit with good views over towards the Eildons.
To return, pick up the Jubilee footpath back down the other side of the river all the way to the start. Black hill could be left out if you wanted a shorter 5 mile route.
